Note:These pages make extensive use of the latest XHTML and CSS Standards. They ought to look great in any standards-compliant modern browser. Unfortunately, they will probably look horrible in older browsers, like Netscape 4.x and IE 4.x. Moreover, many posts use MathML, which is, currently only supported in Mozilla. My best suggestion (and you will thank me when surfing an ever-increasing number of sites on the web which have been crafted to use the new standards) is to upgrade to the latest version of your browser. If that's not possible, consider moving to the Standards-compliant and open-source Mozilla browser.

Groupoidfest 07

Posted by Urs Schreiber

I was asked to forward the announcement of a conference called

Groupoidfest 07

to the nn-Café. No webpage or similar official site for this seems to exist at this moment. What does exist are two email announcements circulated by Paul S. Muhly. So for the time being I simply reproduce these:

From: Paul S. Muhly
Subject: Groupoidfest 07, First Announcement
Date:September 12, 2007

Dear Friends,

I am writing to announce that Groupoidfest 07 will be held this Fall in Iowa City, at the University of Iowa. The dates are November 3 and 4. Most participants will arrive the 2nd and leave on the 4th in the afternoon. Talks will be scheduled for Saturday and Sunday morning.

As has been the tradition since the beginnings of our meetings, we will split the conference budget of $0 evenly among all participants. Nevertheless, I hope you can come.

I will send out a more detailed announcement later, but for those of you who may want to plan to fly to the meeting, thought you would like to know that the closest airport with major air carrier service is the Cedar Rapids Airport. It is also known as the Eastern Iowa Airport. It’s “identification” code is CID.

I will look forward to seeing you all in November. In the meantime, as always,

Best wishes,

Paul

And here is the second announcement

From: Paul S. Muhly
Subject: Groupoidfest 07, second announcement

Dear Friends,

I am writing with more information about Groupoidfest 07, which will be held in Iowa City on the weekend of November 3 and 4. As I wrote earlier, the meeting itself will be held on campus Saturday (November 3) and Sunday morning (November 4). Most of the participants will be arriving on Friday afternoon or evening (November 2) and leaving in the afternoon on the 4th.

We have reserved rooms at the Heartland Inn, in Coralville, Iowa. This is a motel a couple of miles from campus, but with easy access to campus and surrounding areas. We have a group rate there of $63.75 per night plus 12 per cent tax. (I could not get a groupoid rate.) To make reservations, you must call the Hotel directly at

1- 800 - 334 - 3277 code 19 or 1- 319 - 351- 8132

To receive the group rate, please tell the person with whom you are making the reservation that the

Group Code is “Fest”.

(I note that it is possible to register on line. However, it is not possible to get the group rate and register on line.)

When you make your reservation, please drop me an e-mail to let me know you are coming. Please also let me know when you expect to arrive.

I will send out a schedule of talks later, but I am interested in scheduling as many talks as possible. So please don’t hesitate to step forward.

Let me add, too, that the mailing list is limited. If you know of someone who might be interested in attending, please let them know about the event. Please send me their e-addresses, too. I will be glad to contact them.

In any case, I will look forward to seeing you in Iowa City in November.

As always,

Best wishes,

Paul

I assume for further information you should contact Paul Muhly by email.

If and when an official website or other data of this conference becomes available, I’ll try to post it here. If somebody has such information, please send it to me or my nn-Café co-hosts.

The latter would in fact maybe be better, as I’ll leave into the weekend now and then I’ll be travelling a little, next week to Yale, where I am invited to speak in the Geometry, Symmetry and Physics seminar, then the week after in Split, Croatia, where I am going to attend Categories in Geometry and Physics. (Probably I’ll speak about some of the things mentioned in the woefully unfinished slides On String and Chern-Simons nn-Transport).
