Arithmetic Geometry at the Newton Institute

Perhaps people here at the café with a bit of arithmetic inclination (which is possibly a large majority) might be interested in this workshop:

Unfortunately, I thought of this advertisement much too late, so the deadline to apply for participation is past. However, if I recall correctly the usual situation there, it should be possible just to show up. (I think I’m not suppose to be telling you this.) In any case, Jordan Ellenberg reminded me that all these Newton lectures are eventually available on video, so it might be useful to know of it for future reference. We’ve tried quite hard to have a good mixture of representatives from a wide range of number theory, so it may be of more than passing interest.

Dear Prof. Kim,

The videos are made available real quick, thank you very much. They are of very high quality also. This gives those of us too who didn’t have the opportunity to travel there, to listen to these lectures. Thanks for the initiative. I hope the whole activity will be available like this, for instance the Coates-Sujatha lectures.

I’m glad you like them. Yes, the Newton videos seem to be considerably more pleasant than usual. As far as I know, all the lectures are being taped. There is a person at the institute, Steve Greenham, who works essentially full time on the recordings. If you have any comments, especially suggestions for improvement, you can email him:
