Note:These pages make extensive use of the latest XHTML and CSS Standards. They ought to look great in any standards-compliant modern browser. Unfortunately, they will probably look horrible in older browsers, like Netscape 4.x and IE 4.x. Moreover, many posts use MathML, which is, currently only supported in Mozilla. My best suggestion (and you will thank me when surfing an ever-increasing number of sites on the web which have been crafted to use the new standards) is to upgrade to the latest version of your browser. If that's not possible, consider moving to the Standards-compliant and open-source Mozilla browser.

Inbound Citations

Posted by Urs Schreiber

Jacques Distler has asked us for a list of citations to entries on the nn-category Café and the nnLab.

Since I find it hard to remember them myself, and since it might be of interest in general to keep track of these, I thought I’d create an entry at which to collect them. This is now here:

inbound citations

So far this contains just a handful of citations that I could think of off the top of my head. If you can think of more, please add them.

Re: Inbound Citations

I added Tom and Simon’s Metric Spaces paper. What if a paper merely acknowledges Café help?

Re: Inbound Citations

Let’s add acknowledgements, too, marked as such. It is of interest, too, in this context, I suppose.

Re: Inbound Citations

Google can help you chase down all references on the web. The seach term “link:ncatlab.org -site:ncatlab.org” shows you all links to ncatlab.org which are not self-links. The equivalent URL is URL http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=link%3Ancatlab.org+-site%3Ancatlab.org.

Re: Inbound Citations

You should probably filter out utexas and mathforge, too. Search

Re: Inbound Citations

Experimental full text search on the arXiv will grab some too. I just added a few from there.

Added by User: Ronnie Brown, I see. Watch out that somebody doesn't remove that as a self-citation!

Re: Inbound Citations

How should we refer to nLab and nCat Café in BibTex format? If someone came up with a nice format (template or example) within a suitable publication type, then it would be likely to become more or less standard and would encourage references. I have tried various ones but never with really satisfactory results.

utphys.bst

Use utphys.bst. Then you can cite

@Misc{Distler:Lisi1,
   author = "Distler, Jacques",
   title = "A Little Group Theory",
   howpublished ="weblog entry",
   month = "November",
   year = "2007",
   url = "http://golem.ph.utexas.edu/~distler/blog/archives/001505.html",
   note = "See also \cite{Distler:Lisi2}."
}
@Misc{Distler:Lisi2,
   author = "Distler, Jacques",
   title = "A Little More Group Theory",
   howpublished ="weblog entry",
   month = "December",
   year = "2007",
   url = "http://golem.ph.utexas.edu/~distler/blog/archives/001532.html",
   note = "Followup to \cite{Distler:Lisi1}."
}

See here for more hypertex goodness.

Re: utphys.bst

That is fine for the URLs etc but (sorry for being dim on this) it gives Physics order i.e. corresponding to first appearence in the document rather than alphabetic order which is more usual in Maths. Is there some means of `tweeking’ this?

Re: utphys.bst

I have a partially adapted version of amsalpha.bst. It needs more polishing, before it is of publishable quality.

Contact me privately, if you want a copy.
