Postdoc Position in Lisbon

There’s a postdoc position in Lisbon for someone working on categorification or gerbes!

Here’s the announcement:

Post-doctoral Research Fellowship in Mathematics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research fellowship in Mathematics, within the scope of the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) project “New Geometry and Topology” (PTDC/MAT/101503/2008), focused on categorification, gerbes, quantum topology and quantum gravity.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics (or equivalent) obtained preferably after January 1, 2008, and must show very strong promise in the following research areas (in order of preference):

  1. Categorification (categorified quantum groups, knot homologies etc.);
  2. Gerbes.

Currently the PhD members of the project are: Rui Carpentier, Pedro Lopes, Marco Mackaay, João Faria Martins, Roger Picken, Gonçalo Rodrigues, Paulo Semião, Marko Stosic and Pedro Vaz. The position is for one year to start before the end of 2010, with the possibility of an extension for a second year subject to mutual agreement and budget approval. The salary is currently 17940 euros per annum, free of tax, with a minimum of 750 euros per annum support for conference participation. There are no teaching duties attached to the position. If appointed, the applicant will be based at the Department of Mathematics of the Instituto Superior Tecnico in Lisbon

Applications should be sent by email to the project coordinator, Roger Picken (rpicken@math.ist.utl.pt) as soon as possible, and no later than March 23rd, 2010, and should include a curriculum vitae and a research statement. Three letters of reference should also be sent directly to the same email address. All messages received will be acknowledged. We plan to make the decision about the position during March, 2010.
