It seems that photo has been under the knife of Adobe Photoshop or similar. Can you spot the blurred parts of the photo, just above the loop?
Nope.
It’s completely undoctored. All I did was down-sample it from the original 3264×2448 to 800×600. I didn’t even crop it, or adjust the brightness/contrast.
If you see any artifacts, blame the JPEG compression.
Inspired by this photo I’ve found this site on wikipedia with examples of even much higher loop graphs :)

As is well known trees get nourished by eating motorcycles. The loops are essential for such process. See here.
